Dreamweaver CS5 periodically stops responding

I have used Dreamweaver for 10 years, and am now experiencing a problem I've never seen before. I am using a templatemonster template, and have used their products before without a problem. This spring I purchased an HTML5 responsive template and began developing my site in CS5. From the start, I noticed that DW periodically stopped responding - I got the spinning blue circle for about 7-8 seconds, and then everything was ok for a few minutes. This happens constantly, and makes DW virtually unusable. I've checked the Adobe forums for an answer (hundreds of people seems to have the same problem) and have tried many of the tricks that have worked for others, to no avail. The powers that be at Adobe don't appear to be inclined to help customers resolve the problem. When Adobe bought Macromedia, I knew it was going to be bad news for Macromedia customers and I was right!
