I'm familiar with the bug which lasted up through 5.3 with the 1/3 size thing, but people have been complaining of sharpening / noise reduction bugs which are not limited to 1/3 size or less - it seems all reports are from Mac users (the 5.4 bug I mean), although I'm not sure..
